The modern versions of these quilts are made with original patterns if  available\, or with patterns drafted from the quilt itself.   Each of the original quilts have a history\, some are found as completed quilts\, some are in excellent condition\, some are found as blocks and incomplete tops\, some are found used up and beyond repair. They have a history\, not just of the fabric\, pattern or time period\, but of the person or people who made them.  We may not know the entire story behind each individual quilt\, but we know that they began with a person’s love\, time and hard work\, and we believe that is worth exploring\, preserving and showcasing. We are excited to bring you a special installment of “Found…quilts no longer lost to time”. For our 5th annual show we will showcase the very best of the Found collection from the first 4 years of QUILT AMANA\, as well as some beautiful new pairings.   \nPRE-SHOW DINNER : Thursday April 10th 2025 – QUILT AMANA Pre-Show Dinner – Join us for the 2025 QUILT AMANA Pre-Show Dinner\, Thursday April 10th at The Hotel Millwright with guest speaker Virginia Berger\, quilt historian and appraiser\, presenting “Tell Me About Grandma’s Quilt”. SUMMARY:Wool Applique Class with Patricia Sanabria-Friederich of PGT Designs
DESCRIPTION:Our guest artist and instructor\, Patricia Sanabria-Friederich of PGT Designs (Patterns from Grandma’s Trunk)\, is a talented designer and instructor currently based in Denver Iowa\, where she lives with her husband. Patricia was born in Costa Rica and says she was fortunate to have had sewing classes in elementary school. Through those classes\, along with instruction from her mother and grandmother\, she learned sewing at a young age. Following a move to Wisconsin in the mid 90s\, she took her first formal quilting class.  \nIn 2013 her first book\, Mosaic Tile Quilts\, was published by Landauer Publishing. The book features designs inspired by mosaic tile floors from historic buildings in Costa Rica. Her passion for designing did not wane. She has continued to design quilts\, table runners and wallhangings\, with her latest designs utilizing handwork techniques like wool applique and embroidery. “I really enjoy sewing by hand\,” says Sanabria-Friederich. This is evidenced in her growing selection of beautiful handwork designs.  \nPatricia enjoys visiting guilds and quilt groups. She has presented and done workshops in Wisconsin\, Iowa\, Illinois\, Minnesota and South Carolina. Once a year she travels back to Costa Rica and gives classes at her family’s quilt shop. “I have been lucky enough to have my designs on display at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts. I have also had my designs regularly published in Primitive Quilts & Projects\, and my quilt design\, Shades of Blue\, was in the Paducah semi finals.” \nWe are excited to welcome Patricia Sanabria-Friederich to QUILT AMANA 2024. There will be 25 slots available in her Jacobean Table Mat Wool Applique Class on April 11th\, 2024  in the Carding Studio at the Hotel Millwright. Class fee (includes lunch) is $110. Patricia will also have a booth with all of her wonderful patterns and kits at QUILT AMANA 2024. \n \n\nQUILT AMANA 2024 Jacobean Table Mat Wool Applique Class  \nLocation: The Carding Studio at Hotel Millwright. \nDate/ Time: April 11th\, 2024\, 9am-4pm. \nCost: Class Fee (includes lunch) $110 per person.  \nIn this class you will learn the basics of wool applique. Patricia will teach you her preferred fusing technique\, and will also explain some other techniques so that you can decide what will work best for you as you move with future wool applique projects. She will demonstrate cutting techniques and her favorite hand embroidery stitches for embellishing your wool applique projects. “I know once you learn the basics\, you will fall in love with this and get lost in handwork!” says Patrica.  \nProvided (included in class fee):  \nJacobean Table Mat Pattern\, Wool\, Backing \, Interfacing\,  and of course\, In depth instruction from Patricia.  \nLunch is included in the Class Fee (Participants will choose from a provided menu).  \n3 Light Box Stations & 3 Pressing Stations will be provided.  \nSupply List (brought by participants):  \nValdani 12wt.
