Heritage Designs Quilting & Needlework and our talented quilters present QUILT AMANA 2024.Â
QUILT AMANA 2024 will showcase over 200 gorgeous quilts, many of which will be offered for sale. The event will include award winning quilts, classic quilts, art quilts, and antique quilts with their modern reproductions and history (see below for more details about FOUND). Our guest exhibit this year is by CITA (Central Iowa Textile Artists), with a collection of eclectic art quilts made by individual members. We also welcome back local quilter Molly Kephart, demonstrating traditional Amana whole cloth quilting. A raffle quilt from Safe Haven of Iowa County will be on display, and proceeds from chances purchased for the quilt will benefit their pet rescue efforts.Â
QUILTS FOR SALE : If you want to buy a quilt, we have something for you! We are offering beautiful quilts of all kinds for sale: classic quilts, modern quilts, art quilts, or simply basic quilts to use and enjoy in your home! You don’t have to be a quilter to enjoy QUILT AMANA. Come see the rich art of quilting on display, and possibly take home a special quilt for your family to enjoy for years to come.Â
VENDORS: This year our vendors will include Schanz Furniture and Refinishing with hardwood quilt display items and home décor; PGT Designs with primitive embroidery and wool applique patterns and kits; fabric rep swatch and sample sale, QUILT AMANA Quilters’ Market with finished quilted items (including lap quilts and quilt themed home décor); nature inspired art quilts by fiber artist Sue Kluber of Gypsy Soul Art; and Yarn Adventure Truck, specializing in hand-dyed yarn from small-batch dyers across the US.Â
FOUND: The Found exhibition is a growing and changing collection of antique, heirloom or previously forgotten quilts displayed with a brief history and a modern reproduction. The modern versions of these quilts are made with original patterns if available, or with patterns drafted from the quilt itself.  Each of the original quilts have a history, some are found as completed quilts, some are in excellent condition, some are found as blocks and incomplete tops, some are found used up and beyond repair. They have a history, not just of the fabric, pattern or time period, but of the person or people who made them. We may not know the entire story behind each individual quilt, but we know that they began with a person’s love, time and hard work, and we believe that is worth exploring, preserving and showcasing. We are excited to bring you another installment of “Found…quilts no longer lost to time” at QUILT AMANA 2024.Â
APPLIQUE & EMBROIDERY CLASS: Patricia Sanabria-Friederich of PGT Designs will teach a wool applique and embroidery class featuring one of her original designs, a Jacobean inspired table mat. Thursday April 11th, 9am-4pm in the Carding Studio at Hotel Millwright. Class fee (includes lunch) $110. Contact Heritage Designs Quilting & Needlework for more information. Seats are limited to 25 students, so reserve your spot today.
PRE-SHOW DINNER : Join us on Thursday April 11th for the QUILT AMANA Pre-Show Dinner. This year we welcome fiber artist Sue Kluber of Gypsy Soul Art who will be offering a lecture and trunk show featuring her beautiful art quilts. Many of her quilts are nature inspired, with images taken from her own photos and experiences. Sue employs raw edge applique and thread work techniques and even painting to create these beautiful pieces! Tickets for this event are $50 and include a weekend pass to QUILT AMANA 2024. Seating is limited, so contact Heritage Designs to reserve a spot today, or purchase tickets to this event in an overnight package from Hotel Millwright.
General Admission to QUILT AMANA 2024 is $8 per day or $10 for a weekend pass.
We hope to see you at QUILT AMANA, April 12-14 2024!
